Well you did, so how about your opinion...

Personally, I thought it had promise. Gervais overdid the character physically and was not at all convincing. I like him a lot, but he should have cast someone else.

Karl Pilikington's character had more promise as a lead, to be honest, but mainly because he talked like Karl!

Derek sitting on his food and falling in the pond were very telegraphed. I run a shop and come accross a few people like Derek - mentally subnormal but functional enough to be allowed on their own. He got much of it right, but the bad parts of his performance let the programme down as a whole.

I wouldn't beg for a series.

I tried but failed halfway through I didnt think anything could be so bad that it would make me actually miss Crossroads!

I agree with the above.

Apart from the Crossroads bit.

I thought it was a well written piece and funny and poignant BUT Gervais is still not convinving that he or Karl Pilkington are anything other either David Brent or themselves; it seems very difficult espcially for Gervais to lose that tag and Derek certainly wasn't a totally different character.
I enjoyed it all the same, couldn't watch a series thought, not enough depth.

Lots of things to criticise about this show very few plus points.

I did see lots of people saying 'well he didn't mock the disabled so nurr to all the haters...'

I don't think anyone actually said it was 'mocking' the disabled but there you go.

Where it fell down was on the story, the characterisation, the acting, the script, the lighting, the casting. the hair gel and the catering.

Apart from that I wouldn't watch it again.

I wish we could go back to the days of mocking the disabled. I remember fondly laughing at a blind man on Benny Hill. He'd walk along tapping his cane, flailing his arms about (like they do) when he'd come up to a fit bird in her bra and pants.

Of course he couldn't see her!

Hil-har-ious!

More please LWT!

I'm not a huge Gervais fan, but I thought this was good. Quite funny. Quite sad. It could have been much better if it was longer. If there was a series there would have been more depth of character, but for 28 minutes I thought it worked as best it could!

And Gervais maybe seemed a bit over the top, but I thought his acting was better than normal and portrayed many people I've come accross in my life quite well....

Actually I did not offer an opinion as I turned off after only 10 minutes because I could not stand to watch anymore. I was commenting on it not appearing on the forums. Thinking that this rather high profile new comedy would get a lot of chortlers talking.

Being a fan of RG and KP I was surprised I did not enjoy it at all.

Loved the podcasts, love the US office, love Steve Merchant's work. So not keen to criticise too much.

I found Derek a sweet character but the script was soooo weak. It seemed improvised, but not in a good way, and just so predictable.

So I'm glad it was a one off. More Life's Too Short please.
