Matt was back on home territory at Porthtowan's Blue Bar last night.
The audience - eating and drinking at tables - included a crying baby and a dog. Not much scope for subtlety - more like busking on a train. But a lot of laughs for all that.
The microphone failed part way into the set, so the big man used the big voice to good effect. The 'Fish Factory' story, in particular, is now a well crafted piece that is surely destined to be party of Matt's Edinburgh show FUGLY. |

Roger_Bro, you have summed up the atmosphere of the Blue Bar nicely. It's a good venue, but if you want a nuanced theatre style show you'll wait a long time.
It's a good place to wait though, good bar within spitting distance of the beach and the Atlantic ocean - and they do a good comedy night.
By the way the baby was called Hannah (probably still is) and the dog was an Airedale called Bob.
Cheers,

September and the comedy night at the Western Hotel once again makes its contribution to the St Ives Festival.
As always – it seems – the evening was hosted by Matt Price. In typical Price fashion he persuaded a member of the audience to introduce him from the middle of the rather awkwardly shaped split-level room. He did a ten minute warm up – not much material, but a lot of interactive crowd pleasing stuff – then brought on the first act, Wil Hodgson.
This was Hodgson's first visit to St.Ives but any doubts about his ability to capture the attention of this audience (many of them older 'Radio 4' types) were dispelled in the first half minute. His characteristic West Country drawl seemed to disguise his rapid delivery, and even where it wasn't LOL funny (though most of it was) it intrigued and demanded attention; he tells a good story. Hodgson left the stage to the sound of enthusiastic applause.
After the break Matt did some more of his interactive foolery before bringing on the main act - Brian Damage and Krysstal. They stormed it. There's a seaside postcard feel to some of their stuff that works just right for any audience – even the 'Radio 4' contingent.
Krysstal's five minute 'solo' spot while Brian leaves the stage 'ill', but actually taking a smoke break, was character comedy at its best. Her portrayal of a dim stage persona is completely straight faced and utterly hilarious. There's more than a pinch of acting ability there.
My only disappointment was that they didn't do 'Hotel Torresmolinos' – a quintessential BD&K song. (Google it – you know you want to!)
Worth mentioning, perhaps that for all the messing about, the act is underpinned by some sound musical abilities. Brian, in particular, can certainly handle a guitar!
Matt rounded the evening off and was last seen shovelling down curry with the other acts in the corner of the bar.
Well done, all, and come back soon! |

Matt's one of my favourite acts on the circuit, hard working, funny and self aware.
I hope he has great success |

| Matt's superb. A good lad. Tense times at Unit 4 in Essex but he managed to diffuse and get everyone to pay attention to the acts. Fantastic work. |

| Just saw Matt in Kingston (in the UK) great act. Dealt with some really weird heckles brilliantly and had the audience eating out of his hand. Class Act and a smashing bloke to boot!! |

| Matt headlined my Christmas gig in East London last night. He was superb. After the gig I had regulars coming up to me and asking if Matt could headline every month! He's a lovely, lovely guy too. Honestly I can't recommend him highly enough. |

I had Matt headline my night last night and would definitely recommend booking him. He is genuinely my favourite act on the circuit.
I've seen him several times and he's never done the same set twice, which makes his set fresh. Matt also makes a real effort to involve the audience in his set and I've had several punters asking when I'll be booking him again!!
Book Matt now as he always delivers a solid set! _________________ www.runawaycomedy.co.uk

| The majestic Matt Price headlined Castle Comedy last Thursday. He is a comic who genuinely cares that an audience has a great time, which means a lot to a promoter. His set was brilliant; he had a flow of anecdotes and routines that were bursting to the seams with punch lines and laugh points. Interesting, poignant at times, rip roaringly funny and a bloody nice bloke……………….book Matt Price! |
