As discussed in the Izzard thread, some top comedians we hold in high regard and look up to do have bad nights, and obviously are prone to failure occasionally.
This may be a little negative, but does anyone else have any tales of top comedy performers doing bad gigs or dealing with problems.
Fact is, I'm sure it happens to all of us. |

I've seen Jeff Green have two really bad gigs - to be fair he was obviously quite pooly at one of them in Edinburgh about 6 years ago. I also saw him have a tough time at the Comedy Store late one night....
The best one was Alan Davies at The Bearcat club in Twickenham. He was headlining and he had to follow "anarchic " comedian Woody Bopp Muddy and two girlies shouted out "show us your cock" and it just totally threw him for the entire gig.
The whole Eddie Izzard in French did it for me - you could spot all the Daily Mail readers laughing really heartily 'cos they spend their entire summer holiday in Provence. I found it a bit Emperors new clothes and I felt a bit left out!

You should never gig when you're "feeling poo-ly" it's a recipe for disaster unless you're wearing brown trousers.

There was the infmaous Mackenzie Crook at Just The Tonic that I missed. Also saw Bruce Griffiths play to absolute silence there.
They can be absolute bastards that audience. |

Probably not helped that it was a traditional non-comedy audience paying £15 to see "that funny bloke off the Office".
Plus the character isn't fit to lick the boots of Charlie Cheese.

If you want to see top circuit acts die go to a PJ gig.
That's a sort of plug, isn't it?
Although the "Best Death on a Television Programme" award HAS to go to
Tommy Cooper - a true classic which most of you lot are too young to remember.

| I saw Frank Skinner as "a famous name who can't be advertized" trying out new material for his chatshow go down in flames at The Amused Moose a few years back. A drunk girl in the front row kept talking back to anything he he said (maybe she thought she was still watching him on TV), which Skinner tolerated at first. But when she wouldn't shut up, he overreacted with a dubious put-down comparing her to a prostitute which totally lost him the sympathy of the audience. After a few more weak topical jokes, he made a hasty exit. Still, at least he didn't sing. |

| witnessed so called legend Keith Allen die when he wasn't even on the bill! He turned up at Up the Creek one night and proceeded to get on stage before the show started and blabble about nothing for 15 minutes, introduced his non comedian buddy on stage who died for 10 minutes then also brought his 18 year old female companion on stage to sing some sort of acapella song which was truley cringeworthy but threatened to beat the shit out of every audience member who didn't give her a standing ovation. As he was already incredibly pissed and dying on his arse he decided once the show had started to heckle inanely every single act. Unfortunately he came up against Brendan Burns who ditched his material and spent 20 minutes nailing Keith with everything but the kitchen sink. Beautiful |
