Genre gets its own Edinburgh award
| Quote: | Cabaret is to get its own award at the Edinburgh Fringe.
A year after the genre was given its own category in the Fringe programme, Time Out and Soho Theatre are to present the TO&ST award.
There is no cash prize, but the winner will get a two-week run at Soho Downstairs and a feature in Time Out magazine.
Up to six full-length shows – new to the festival, and with long runs – will make the shortlist, announced on August 15. The winner will be revealed on August 23.
It will be judged by a panel of three: Time Out cabaret editor Ben Walters, Soho Theatre producer Steve Lock and Frodo McDaniel, artistic director of the Glasgow Cabaret Festival.
Time Out’s editor-in-chief, Tim Arthur, said: ‘We’re delighted to help build on the form’s growing recognition’, while Soho Theatre’s artistic director Steve Marmion added: ‘We are excited about discovering new talent that we can showcase here.’
