|...to showcase in New York
|Bafta is seeking budding British comedy writers to showcase to American TV executives.
Three winners of their talent hunt will be flown to the New York Television Festival in October, where the script will be read by professional actors in front of an audience of TV bigwigs.
Scripts will also be distributed to executives and networks in advance of the festival, and the chosen writers will get mentoring and feedback from senior industry figures.
Bafta and talent development company are inviting all comedians, sketch performers, comedy writers and producers to enter their sitcoms or sketches.
Entries will be judged on the originality of the idea, the writer’s ‘strength of voice’, the suitability to be performed on stage, and whether it is adaptable for a US market.
It costs between £30 and £50 to enter. Closing date is July 27, but tomorrow is the early bird deadline for cheaper entries.
