I am shocked at this, McIntyre actually tries out new material? I hate to hear the stuff that ges dropped.

I am doing a 'preview' in London that I am charging for that is to be at the Free Festival in Edinburgh.

However, I can take comfort in the fact that many mateys who will be coming that wont have to pay the train to Edinburgh to celebrate my 40th birthday on August 10th, so that's ok.

Also, on a serious note, I'm not quite sure of the relevance here. The Free Festival/Fringe yet again taking a wee dig when it's primary reason for existing is to make the Fringe more accessible to all given extortionate costings and prices all over the place.

It's almost suggested that a free (ie shit) show shouldn't be fooling people in London when people north of the border can catch it for free.

We all know that's not necessarily the case, so why is that even mentioned? Again.

Nick, I dont think it's a dig at the Free Fringe so much as someone trying to contain their puke at the kind of inverted snob who can actually write...

the ‘showboating’ dates will nonetheless sell out ‘depriving those struggling comedians crawling up and down the Royal Mile just about mustering the strength to force a rain-soaked flyer into a Belgian’s hand’.

...if he can find people dumb enough to pay it, why not?

Indeed this could be the case, Mr Miller, but we all know what the 'industry' thinks of the FF shows. Continual digs, which while I understand, I cannot condone.

The sooner they all realise that in many ways they caused it to emerge through extortionate costs and prices, the sooner they might start to be more reasonable.

I have seen worse acts charging entry fees at other festivals and making money, but in Edinburgh top circuit acts and great comedians lose thousands. I know this is not what the actual article is about, which is why in many ways I dislike it being mentioned at all. It has no relevance to what Mr McIntyre is doing with those prices for a 'work in progress'.

And it seems to me that he is not conning anyone. It's billed as such and does exactly what it says on the tin. If they want to pay top dollar to see a comedy superstar reading from notes, then that's up to them.

I think he doesn't need to and shouldn't be however, doing it during the Edinburgh Fringe when people are struggling to make money and a name for themselves.

Lastly, I tried to edit something on my post too, then realised you couldn't. I have therefore read and edited this more thouroghly. Er, I mean thoroughly...

I guess the issue here is that if MM charged a tenner,the tickets would be on Ebay for vastly more, so as long as the audience know it's a preview, it's their call if they want to pay it. I somehow doubt he will be reading much from notes. It's still a pretty big gig.

As you will now know Mr Daley, I couldn't make The Pear last night, but will be talking to Mr Damage later about future dates that I will be at.

Then you can over-charge on the door for people to come and see us all you like. £31 should do it and I promise not to read from notes.
