BBC renews slacker sitcom
Quote:
BBC Three series Cuckoo has been commissioned for a second series.

The show, which starred Andy Samberg as a a New Age slacker, was the channel’s most-watched new comedy when it launched in September, with overnight ratings of 1.15million viewers.

News of the recommission was broken by star Drew-Honey on his Twitter feed. In response to a fan who asked: ‘Will there be a cuckoo season two?’, the 17-year-old actor replied: ‘Yes there will be Smile xx’

The BBC confirmed the news to Chortle, and a spokesman said they are now trying to check cast availability for filming.

Greg Davies – who played the disappointed suburban father whose daughter married ‘Cuckoo’ while on a gap year trip to India – is currently writing Man Down, a sitcom for Channel 4 loosely based on his teaching career.

Drew-Honey is set to work on another series of Outnumbered, while Samberg will be seen in the films Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, Grown Ups 2 and The To Do List later this year.

Because the cast have not yet been pinned down, the BBC are unable to confirm when the second series will go out. It is also not known how many episodes will be made, although the first series ran over six half-hours.
